Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I book a session or event with you?

I would love to work with you! Please reach out to me via the contact form on this website or email me {info@samanthaerinphotography.com} to inquire about my availability and pricing for your event.

2. What type of photography do you offer?

I have photographed everything from weddings, high profile galas and award ceremonies, restaurant menus, magazine covers, real estate, headshots, all stages of family life, community events and more. What interests me most are interesting people and documenting what matters to you! I am excited to hear about your event and how I can best serve you.

3. Do you teach photography or mentor new photographers?

Yes I do, and I love connecting with new artists and helping them grow their business and meet their goals. I have taught photography at a college level and also ran photography clubs. Please reach out to me if you are interested in booking a one on one mentorship session! I would be very excited to help you with your goals!

4. How do you deliver your photos to clients?

I use a safe and secure website service called Pixieset to deliver high quality JPG images to my clients in a passcode protected gallery. The length of the session determines the amount of delivered files. I believe my clients deserve to have all the photos that turned out well and tend to deliver many images. Prints and albums are available at an additional cost.

5. How long does it take to receive our photos?

For a regular session or event less than two hours, the turn around time is typically two weeks or less. For a full wedding commission, the estimated delivery time is 6-8 weeks, with an image preview gallery emailed to you within the first two weeks. I understand certain events require really quick delivery and aim to work within my client's needs.

6. How long will you store our files for?

I know how valuable and irreplaceable photographs are and aim to backup my client's photos for them which is why I invest in extensive cloud storage as well as hard drives for storage. However, I cannot guarantee at any point in time that technology will not fail and for that reason do not guarantee to back up your files beyond the delivery of them to you. Please always back up your photos in 2 places (hard drive, phone, cloud, etc.) while remembering to print the ones precious to you to ensure you never lose them.

7. Do I get the rights to my photos?

Canadian copyright law says that the photographer retains the copyright of their work, even if you are in the photo. When I share with you your digital files, they come with a personal use agreement for you to cherish them among family and friends or share them without any monetary profit for yourself on the internet. Any commercial use may require a licensing agreement as you do not have the right to make any direct compensation off of my photography. I am experienced in making sure my clients know how to appropriately use their photos and happy to answer any questions about this with you!

8. Can I buy a gift card?

Yes! Please reach out to me to purchase your gift card. Photography is an awesome gift to give to someone! My gift cards do not expire, however, my pricing does go up over time. A $300 gift card will hold more value when used today than it will if you wait a few years so be sure to get booked in!

9. What if I have to cancel or reschedule?

I know that unforeseen things can happen and try my best to work with my clients. As a mom with two young children, and chronically ill family members, I know you can't plan for certain things. Rescheduling is always something I aim to do because I want to be able to work together when it works for everyone. If you need to cancel within 6 months or less of your session date, your deposit is non-refundable. There are many more terms to my cancellation policy within my contract that protect both myself and my clients. Please reach out with questions.

10. Can you work in any lighting and weather?

I consider myself to be incredibly adventurous and easy going. I love a challenge and even enjoy storm chasing so it would be rare for me to cancel due to weather, unless I was snowed in or conditions are just not safe to be outside in (safety first!) I have invested in top quality gear that can work great in any weather including heavy rain so I leave the decision to reschedule due to rain up to my clients. As for lighting, I am confidently prepared to capture great photos in any lighting conditions and any time of day. I have the skills to utilize available light as well as bring in my own lighting when needed.

11. We are awkward or inexperienced in front of the camera. Will that be a problem?

Not at all! I don't expect my clients to be the ones with experience. I rely on my own experience to make you feel at ease, have fun, and capture great images. That's my job! A little secret is that I am also an awkward, silly person and my personality usually helps my clients feel at ease to just be themselves - which is our goal!

12. Do you shoot with professional gear?

Yes! While I think my work speaks for itself and an eye for detail and light is the most important thing, I also value my camera gear that helps me achieve my shooting goals in any setting. I am a Nikon girl since I started at 17 years old, and am constantly investing in great gear. While I usually keep only one lens on 90% of the time, I own an amazing collection of highest quality lenses for my full frame camera body, to ensure that I can get "the shot" no matter what, without limitation. I am happy to share my gear list with you, but just know that I am well prepared.
